About Wilks to DOTS Powerlifting Score Calculator

Compare relative strength in competitive powerlifting across weight classes and sexes using the standardized Wilks and DOTS formulas.

Both systems normalize three-lift competition totals (squat + bench press + deadlift) against bodyweight using high-degree polynomial regression curves.

How the calculation works

DOTS Formula

Score = Total (kg) × (500 ÷ (A·x⁴ + B·x³ + C·x² + D·x + E)), where x is bodyweight in kg and coefficients are sex-specific 4th-degree polynomials.

Wilks Formula (1994)

Score = Total (kg) × (500 ÷ (a + b·x + c·x² + d·x³ + e·x⁴ + f·x⁵)), using Robert Wilks' standard 5th-degree polynomial coefficients.

Strength-to-Weight Ratio

Ratio = competition total in kg ÷ bodyweight in kg.

Understanding the result

Scores above 350 generally represent advanced lifters, 450+ indicates national-level elite performance, and 500+ represents world-class powerlifting.

DOTS was designed to resolve known middleweight and super-heavyweight scaling biases present in original Wilks scoring.

What is the difference between Wilks and DOTS?

The Wilks formula was introduced in 1994 by Robert Wilks, while DOTS was developed later by Tim Konertz to provide fairer scaling between light, middle, and heavyweight lifters.

Can I enter pounds instead of kilograms?

The polynomial coefficients are strictly calibrated for bodyweight and total in kilograms. If lifting in pounds, convert to kilograms (lbs ÷ 2.20462) before calculating.

What is a good DOTS score?

Under typical competitive standards, 250–350 is intermediate, 350–450 is advanced, 450–550 is elite, and 550+ represents world-record tier strength.
