How the calculation works

Gross and net burn

Gross burn is period expenses ÷ months; operating net burn is (expenses − revenue) ÷ months.

Cash burn

(Starting cash − ending cash) ÷ months.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1Replace the example values with internally consistent inputs.
  2. 2Review all result cards and any not-applicable state.
  3. 3Compare multiple scenarios and verify important assumptions independently.

Understanding the result

Cash burn can differ from operating net burn because of financing and balance-sheet timing.

Runway is only calculated when cash burn is positive.

Important limitations

  • Outputs are planning estimates and do not include every provider, accounting, financing, tax, legal, or operational factor.
  • Invalid divisions are shown as not applicable rather than NaN or Infinity.
  • Burn multiple is omitted because the requested inputs do not establish reliable net new recurring revenue.
