Understanding the result
One megapixel equals one million pixels (10^6 pixels), following standard photographic and sensor measurement conventions.
The aspect ratio is simplified using the greatest common divisor (e.g. 6000×4000 simplifies to 3:2; 1920×1080 simplifies to 16:9).
A higher megapixel count represents a larger pixel grid, but does not by itself guarantee superior optical clarity, low-light performance, or dynamic range.
Important limitations
- Megapixel rating measures digital resolution volume, not lens sharpness, sensor size, pixel pitch, optical distortion, or post-processing quality.

In digital imaging and camera specifications, one megapixel equals exactly 1,000,000 pixels. For instance, a 6,000 by 4,000 pixel image contains 24,000,000 pixels, or exactly 24 MP.
Does a higher megapixel count mean better image quality?
Not necessarily. While higher megapixels allow for larger prints and tighter cropping, image quality is strongly driven by sensor size, optical lens resolving power, pixel pitch, and noise control.
How is aspect ratio calculated?
The calculator finds the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the width and height and divides both dimensions by it to display the simplest integer ratio, such as 3:2, 4:3, or 16:9.
