Brick quantities depend on wall geometry and the actual masonry unit, joint, bond, and wall thickness. Brick sizes vary by country, standard, manufacturer, and product, so measure or verify the specified unit rather than relying on a universal bricks-per-area rule.

Measure net wall area

Brick size plus mortar joint

A nominal module combines the actual brick face dimensions with the specified mortar joint. For a simple face-area estimate: Bricks per area ≈ 1 ÷ ((brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)) This assumes the stated orientation and regular joints. Bond pattern, closures, piers, returns, and wall ends affect the count.

Wall-volume method and thickness

A 6 m × 2.7 m wall has 16.2 m² gross area. A 1.2 m × 1.5 m opening removes 1.8 m², leaving 14.4 m². If the specified brick-and-joint face module were illustratively 0.21 m × 0.075 m, one-layer face count is 14.4 ÷ 0.01575 ≈ 915 bricks before bond details and allowance. Do not reuse this module for a different brick or joint.

Waste, breakage, and ordering

Cuts, breakage, colour blending, complex bonds, site handling, and supplier pack quantities influence the purchasing allowance. Salvage and return policies also matter. Keep base geometric count and allowance visible separately, round up to complete packs or pallets, and confirm matching batches for exposed work.
